Wine Charitable Events

The commissioner may issue special one-day licenses to duly organized, nonprofit corporations and associations allowing the sale and serving of wine when raising money for athletic, charitable, educational or religious purposes. The license application shall contain information as the commissioner may reasonably require and shall be submitted to the commissioner at least thirty days prior to the event. Wines used during these events may be donated by or purchased from a licensed retailer, a distributor or a farm winery.

Application for this license is made through letter to the commissioner on company letterhead accompanied by tax exempt certification under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Request for license must include the purpose for the event, date of event, time of event, and the location of the event.

The privileges, duties and responsibilities for the retail sale of wine is detailed in Legislative Rule CSR 175-4 and authorized by West Virginia Code §60-8.
